UbiquitLink, based in Falls Church, VA, announced it raised new funding to connect cell phones via satellite.
The startup announced it has raised $5.2 million seed funding from former AOL founder/investor Steve Case’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, and Blazar Ventures.
UbiquitiLink offers technology that allows standard cell phones to be connected virtually anywhere around the world using low-earth-orbit nanosatellites, with no changes to the device’s hardware or software. This provides connectivity in even the most isolated locations on the globe.
The startup has raised $12 million to date. Its new funding will help grow development of it’s commercial service with five space test flights of its new technology.
